What disk image types are supported?
Sector can edit and create raw HFS disk images. These typically have the extension .img or .hda, sometimes .disk. Sector cannot modify disk images that are in compressed or encrypted formats like .dmg or NDIF (Disk Copy).
Can it edit HFS+, MFS, or APFS disk images?
No, Sector can only edit HFS disk images. It is not compatible with HFS+ (a newer file system) or MFS (the file system used briefly on the Macintosh 128K for 400K disks) .
Is it compatible with Blue SCSI, Zulu SCSI, and Floppy Emu?
Yes, Sector is perfect for editing the kind of raw HFS images that all three of these devices expect.
Does it work with Mini vMac, Basilisk II, and SheepShaver?
Yes, raw HFS disk images are also the standard format for all of these popular Classic Mac emulators.
Will my data be safe?
Not necessarily. Sector’s changes to a disk image are irreversible and Sector may have bugs. It comes with no guarantee or warranty for any particular purpose and use of Sector may result in data loss. You should backup any images with valuable data before editing them with Sector.
How does Sector handle resource forks?
Sector has built-in support for MacBinary and Binhex. In Auto, MacBinary, and Binhex transfer modes, Sector will automatically wrap files containing resource forks before transferring them to your modern Mac’s file system. It will also automatically convert MacBinary and Binhex files back to resource fork containing files on your disk image when you transfer such files to it. To turn this off, select the Raw transfer mode.
